How isn't Ethereum at #1 is beyond me
I was going to buy ETH/ADA, but I'm considering Nano for the following reasons:
Hi all,
I've sent a wire transfer to Kraken and will make a large (for me) initial purchase of long-term cryptos. I've been researching and have come to the following conclusions:
- Bitcoin is a dinosaur, a v1 of a beautiful concept, and will remain as antiquated as gold: difficult to move, difficult to innovate on, but for that precise reason a good "reference" of value for the industry that is still in its infancy. Conclusion: I am aware of its importance, but I will not be "investing" in it for the moment as I'm looking to invest in functionality over inherent value.
- ETH is a good idea, with a suboptimal implementation. Iimprovements are in the works (ETH2.0), but will be a slow process. Currently, it has the name and existing dapps going for it. Very hyped atm thanks to lots of public approval (marc cuban et al). Conclusion: Might put in a 20-30% in ETH, but would like to know your opinion.
- Cardano/ADA: from what I've read, a much better alternative to ETH. Still in development but an exciting roadmap for the next 6-12 months. Doesn't have the network effects, but thanks to proof of stake fees are much lower and more environmentally friendly, and may be up and running before Eth2 has a chance to come into full effect. Some people call it a second generation Eth, but then again those people can be found on the Cardano subreddit :) Conclusion: a promising candidate, worthy of a stake of the investment (no pun intended), probably 30%.
- Nano: I'm preaching to the choir here, and probably also late to the party, but from what I've read, it really is a matter of the market still not catching up to its qualities. the inherent risk in betting on Nano is that in the short term the market may not understand its qualities in favor of the network effects of Eth or other alternatives. Conclusions: a worthy gamble to stake at least 50% of my investment in Nano.
Questions I have: is my investment split and reasoning/understanding of the current state of these coins any good? Happy to hear feedback and better suggestions.
Thanks for reading and wish you all a prosperous year!

The dApp for salaries in Ethereum (Vitalik's dream)
Vitalik Buterin said somewhere that he regrets that Ethereum doesn't produce enough jobs/salaries.
Vitalik was unable to solve this problem, I did. I fully developed (except only for the audit of smart contracts) an MVP a dApp that incentivizes the market to calculate and pay salaries in Ethereum. This dApp is especially useful to pay salaries to scientists and free software developers. It is also useful for such things as carbon accounting.
The dApp principle is tricky:
- It locks money for an extended period of time (such as 100 years) and unlocks it to "winning" traders (by a principle very similar to prediction markets from gambling) after this time period passes. (Will many enough traders strive for 100-years long profits? We should also consider shortening the period (maybe to 50 years), but if just a small number of traders does want long time profits, it will be enough for the system to work.)
- My math calculations show that if traders a. do use very simple principles for profit maximization; b. (especially, best of them) predict future well-enough, then it is "money transfer from the future": the sum withdrawn in the present is equal (relative to market sizes) to the sum put in the future. So we can gather donations during 100 years in the future and transfer them to pay salaries now!
- The hardest issue to solve was that for this to work we need to create an oracle that will score the scientists' ratings to determine their salaries. It appeared to be impossible, but I realized that we can allocate a part of the prediction market rewards to search engine owners who would build oracles for us.
- Scores for scientists and software developers will be determined in the future: But we with a high confidence can assume that it highly correlates with the number of direct and indirect citations of a scientific work or software package and also with it being released under an open-source license.
- We accept not only donations but also have a clever system of bequests: If anyone doesn't want to donate, why not to bequest? So we can get much more money than other systems, I just call everyone to bequest all his or her funds to my dApp.
So, scientists get paid accordingly the real value of their work: the interest in their research after 100 years. It is the fair way to pay salaries for free software and science!! No need for universities and state funding anymore.
Now, as I said, the MVP is ready. I need exactly $3000 for contracts audit + some money for contracts deployment. Somebody, please help me to accomplish this. (I do have $3000, but I am considering tradeoffs, such as being able to pay for advertising it to kick-start the project afterwards.) Please contact me if you want to donate. (There is a grant on GitCoin, but it is now not in donations a match period; so donors please keep in contact with me.)
Links:
- Demo app (it misses donations in ETH instead of tokens and missed advanced bequests, I am working on this and have partially done it, as it can be added even after releasing an MVP on the mainnet.)
- Temporary site (significantly outdated, I added a few new ideas/changes to my dApp afterwards).
- Source code (see also dependencies).
$3000 and all the world including you gets big, just salaries!

What are some fun or promising dApp and Ethereum projects to check out?
I'm no über techie when it comes to Ethereum or financial instruments, but I've been HODLing for a while and now I'm getting into trying out various projects and seeing what it is all about. So far I've tried:
- Kyberswap exchanging ETH for tokens
- Compound lending
- Etheroll gambling
On my list are:
- Cryptokitties breeding
- Tornado mixer
Really I'm just looking into the capabilities of the system as of now, and I'm not really into spending any substantial amount doing so. What do you suggest checking out?

Matic integrates Chainlink
Matic Network Launches Live Chainlink Price Feeds to Support its Growing DeFi Ecosystem. Matic becomes the first outside Ethereum to launch native Chainlink feeds. Chainlinks have been successfully deployed on Matic Network as a recommended oracle solution for developers. Five price feeds have already been launched on the Matic mainnet: MATIC/USD, USDC/USD, ETH/USD, USDT/USD, and DAI/USD, with many more to come as a way of supporting the defi demand on matic
But before I go further lets have a little introduction on the projects involved
MATIC NETWORK
Matic Network is a Layer 2 scaling solution that achieves scale by utilizing sidechains for off-chain computation while ensuring asset security using the Plasma framework and a decentralized network of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) validators.
Matic is a developer-first hybrid POS Plasma sidechain on top of Ethereum, enabling Ethereum developers to scale their DApps for large scale usage.
CHAIN LINK
ChainLink is a decentralized oracle network that provides real-world data to smart contracts on the blockchain.
Chainlink is the most widely used and secure way to power universal smart contracts. With Chainlink, developers can connect any blockchain with high-quality data sources from other blockchains as well as real-world data. Managed by a global, decentralized community of hundreds of thousands of people, Chainlink is introducing a fairer model for contracts.
Chainlink VRF
Chainlink VRF uses cryptographically-verifiable randomness functions to make provably-random outcomes verifiable on the blockchain. The VRF has been particularly useful for blockchain-based gaming and gambling and could be used to prove random assignment of tasks in the workplace.
In addition to Chainlink Price Feeds for DeFi, Chainlink VRF (Verifiable Random Function) will also be launching in the near future on Matic Network to support a new wave of scalable gaming applications reliant on provably fair randomness.
Outside of Price Feeds and VRF, Chainlink will also be available as a general-purpose oracle solution for connecting to any off-chain API, empowering development of virtually any externally connected blockchain application. One such project taking advantage of Chainlink’s flexibility and uniquely launching on Matic Network is Digital Bridge, a 2FA oracle built using Chainlink that allows developers to add an extra security layer into their smart contracts.
Conclusion
Chainlink was selected as the preferred oracle solution on Matic Network because it provides Matic developers with access to high quality data, decentralized oracle infrastructure, Sybil resistant oracle nodes, and transparent processes so users and developers can monitor how the oracle networks and the individual nodes function in real-time. The end result is highly available, accurate, manipulation resistant, and transparent oracle networks for getting any off-chain resource necessary for success.
